Happy 4th of July!!
We vieren dat de eerste 13 Staten vrij zijn van Groot Brittanië. Wij hebben dit gevierd met een parade, wij liepen samen met een hele hoop andere mensen door de wijk in rood, wit en blauw. Grey en Alex waren kamperen en wij bleven thuis. Dus dachten we leuk een parade! Helaas was het niet wat wij er van verwachten... wij moesten een eind lopen om de parade te kunnen zien. Dat is wat wij dachten, Bogi heeft de buggy de hele heuvel op geduwd, om vervolgens binnen 1minuut weer om te keren en de parade te lopen. Debby en ik dachten dat we naar de parade gingen kijken, maar we liepen dus mee. Het was helaas geen parade wat je van een parade dacht. Het was een grote groep mensen die de berg afliepen, zonder muziek, naar het park. Eenmaal bij het park aangekomen, stond er een foodtruck voor ijs en bento boxes. Later kwam de brandweer en gaven helmen, tekeningen en ander kleine dingen weg. Ook mochten de kinderen hangen aan de ladder! Debby en ik hebben die avond Chinees besteld en ik heb nog vuurwerk afgestoken. Nou ja sterretjes. Verder op in Portland was vuurwerk te zien!
De volgende dag was Sloane nog thuis! Om haar niet te laten slapen, heb ik een middagje met Sloane gespeeld. Het was een Marit en Sloane dag! We zijn samen naar 23rd street gelopen. De weg er naar toe was al gezellig, bloemen plukken, stenen verzamelen en van alles gezien. Eenmaal op 23rd street aangekomen, hebben we een ballon gekocht. Sloane was zo blij met haar ballon. Ze mocht het zelf uit kiezen en zag hoe de ballon opgeblazen werd. We zijn nog in andere winkels geweest. Eentje had opgezeten dieren, het was een rare winkel, maar Sloane wilde er graag heen. Daar had ze twee speciale stenen uitgekozen. Ook wilde ze graag de giraffe, maar ik denk dat het niet past in het huis 🤣 nog ergens popcorn en een ijsje gehaald en toen weer terug naar huis gelopen. Grey en Alex waren ook net thuis gekomen. Ik heb samen met Grey de laatste sterretjes afgestoken en toen was het ook alweer tijd voor het avondeten.
Die vrijdag had ik een verjaardagsfeestje van Larissa. Ze gaf het feestje bij een rollerskate baan. Het was super leuk, ben er nog nooit geweest maar het was leuk om te doen. Soms moesten we aan de kant zitten, want de ene keer mochten er alleen partners op de baan of professionals die beter waren in dansen. Dus hadden we een paar keer dat we de baan niet op konden. Maar dat gaf niks, want dan kon ik de andere meiden helpen met rollerskaten.
De rollerskate baan is bij een pretpark en mijn gastgezin dacht dat het wel een leuk idee was om daar naar toe te gaan. Het duurde even voordat de kinderen door hadden dat de attracties leuk waren! Ze wilde niet alleen gaan, dus ik ben samen met de kinderen in de meeste attracties geweest. In sommige mocht ik niet mee want daar was ik te groot. Maar gelukkig hadden de kinderen toen al door dat de attracties super leuk waren!
Die zaterdag ben ik samen met Paula gaan hiken. We vonden een waterval waar we naar toe konden. We hebben daar de hele ronde gelopen, een andere mooi punt opzocht en daarna een ijsje gegeten. We hadden geluk met het weer!
Eindelijk heeft Dani nu ook een slaapje! Dat betekend dat Dani en Lis nu ook doordeweeks met Noah en Finn kunnen spelen in het park. De kinderen hebben het echt super leuk samen. Ook betekend het dat we nu met alle kinderen gezellig samen kunnen lunchen. Ik denk dat we tenminste elke week wel 3 keer samen lunchen of proberen. Heb ook wel dagen gehad waar bij het alleen Dai en Noah was. Wat ook gezellig is, zo zijn we gaan wandelen in het bos en mochten de kinderen in het water spelen.
Nadat ik zondag de 17de mijn zusjes gebeld heb voor hun verjaardag, ben ik naar Circus de Soleil geweest. Samen met Dai, Lis en Natalie zijn we eerst naar het circus geweest. Het was zo gaaf om het weer een keer te zien. Alles was zo mooi uitgevoerd en de acts waren fantastisch. Daarna zijn we naar mijn allereerste voetbal wedstrijd geweest. We zaten in het vak met de hard-core fans, dus het was behoorlijk luid. Het was niet echt een spannende wedstrijd, ik heb spannender half gevolgd wanneer mijn vader het keek. Maar het was gezellig. De eindstand eindigde gelijk in 1-1.
Ook dacht ik eens een keer een zaterdagje sportief te zijn. Samen met Bogi heb ik de bubble run gerend. Dan ren je door een grote bak met zeep in verschillende kleuren, zoals blauw en roze. Tussendoor rende je gewoon op een weg tussen de rest van de mensen. Helaas is het niet echt aanmoedigend als bijna niemand rent. Dus werd heteer een 5km wandeling dan dat ik rende. Niet dat ik ook verwachtte dat ik de hele weg ging rennen, maar als iedereen loopt en de weg is ook niet echt fijn om op te rennen....maar goed het was leuk, we zijn zelfs terug gegaan door sommige zeepbakken om onze shirts een kleurtje te geven. De dag daarna ben ik met mijn gastgezin naar het strand geweest en hebben we gezwommen bij vrienden thuis.
We hadden nog wel een bijzonder bezoek deze maand. Debby en Alex zijn bevriend met een vrouw die nu een nestje heeft. De Ridgeback puppies moesten die dag toevallig in Portland zijn dus kwamen ze op bezoek. We hadden 7 puppies rond lopen in de speelkamer. Finn was zo blij, maar wist niet precies hoe hij met de puppies moest spelen. Soms werd hij "aangevallen" door de puppies want die zagen dat als spelen. Het was zo schattig. De puppies waren naar een uur ook wel helemaal munt en toen dacht Finn nu zijn ze het leukst. Noah, Dai en Bogi waren er ook even om met de puppies te spelen.
Door de weeks was het vooral spelen in de parken of het bos. En natuurlijk zijn we naar Starbucks geweest. Drukke weken en dan gaat de tijd ook snel. Gelukkig is het weer super mooi, maar soms was het super warm en was Debby zo lief om mij en Finn op te halen! Vooral als ik een berg op moest lopen met 32 graden of hoger. Ik probeerde in ieder geval op tijd thuis te zijn voordat het te warm was.

We celebrate that the first 13 States are free from Great Britain. We celebrated this with a parade, we walked through the neighborhood with a lot of other people in red, white and blue. Grey and Alex were camping and we stayed at home. So we thought it would be fun to have a parade! Unfortunately it was not what we expected... we had to walk a long way to see the parade. That's what we thought, Bogi pushed the buggy up the whole hill, then within 1 minute turn around again and walk the parade. Debby and I thought we were going to watch the parade, but we walked along. It was unfortunately not a parade what you would think of a parade. It was a large group of people walking down the mountain, without music, to the park. Once we arrived at the park, there was a food truck for ice cream and bento boxes. Later the fire brigade came and gave away helmets, drawings and other small things. The children were also allowed to hang from the ladder! Debby and I ordered Chinese that night and I set off fireworks. Well, stars. Further up in Portland there were fireworks!
The next day Sloane was still at home! To keep her from sleeping, I spent an afternoon playing with Sloane. It was a Marit and Sloane day! We walked to 23rd street together. The way there was already pleasant, picking flowers, collecting stones and seen everything. Once we arrived at 23rd street, we bought a balloon. Sloane was so happy with her balloon. She was allowed to choose it herself and saw how the balloon was inflated. We have been to other stores. One had stuffed animals, it was a weird store, but Sloane wanted to go there. There she had chosen two special stones. She also wanted the giraffe, but I don't think it fits in the house 🤣 got some popcorn and an ice cream somewhere and then walked back home. Grey and Alex had also just come home. I lit the last sparklers with Grey and then it was time for dinner again.
That Friday I had Larissa's birthday party. She threw the party at a roller skate track. It was super fun, I've never been there but it was fun to do. Sometimes we had to sit to the side, because sometimes only partners were allowed on the track or professionals who were better at dancing. So we had a few times where we couldn't get on the track. But that didn't matter, because then I could help the other girls with roller skating.
The rollerskate track is at an amusement park and my host family thought it would be a good idea to go there. It took a while for the kids to realize that the rides were fun! She didn't want to go alone, so I've been to most of the rides with the kids. In some I was not allowed to join because I was too big there. But luckily the children already realized that the attractions were super fun!
That Saturday I went hiking with Paula. We found a waterfall we could go to. We walked the whole round there, looked for another beautiful point and then ate an ice cream. We were lucky with the weather!
Finally Dani has a nap too! That means that Dani and Lis can now also play with Noah and Finn in the park during the week. The kids really have a great time together. It also means that we can now have lunch together with all the children. I think we eat or try lunch together at least 3 times a week. Have also had days where it was only Dai and Noah. Which is also nice, so we went for a walk in the woods and the children were allowed to play in the water.
After calling my sisters for their birthday on Sunday the 17th, I went to Circus de Soleil. Together with Dai, Lis and Natalie we first went to the circus. It was so cool to see it again. Everything was so beautifully performed and the acts were fantastic. Then we went to my very first football match. We were in the box with the hard core fans, so it was pretty loud. It wasn't really an exciting match, I half followed more exciting when my father watched it. But it was fun. The final score ended in a 1-1 draw.
I also once thought I'd be sporty for a Saturday. I ran the bubble run with Bogi. Then you run through a large tub of soap in different colors, such as blue and pink. In between you just ran on a road between the rest of the people. Unfortunately, it's not really encouraging when hardly anyone is running. So it was more like a 5km walk than a run. Not that I expected to run all the way either, but when everyone is walking and the road isn't really nice to run on either...but hey it was fun, we even went back through some soap trays to get our shirts to give a color. The next day I went to the beach with my host family and we swam at friends' houses.
We did have a special visit this month. Debby and Alex are friends with a woman who is now having a litter. The Ridgeback puppies happened to be in Portland that day so they came to visit. We had 7 puppies running around in the playroom. Finn was so happy, but he wasn't sure how to play with the puppies. Sometimes he was "attacked" by the puppies because they saw it as playing. It was so cute. The puppies were completely mint after an hour and then Finn thought they are the cutest now. Noah, Dai and Bogi were also there to play with the puppies.
During the week it was mostly playing in the parks or the woods. And of course we went to Starbucks. Busy weeks and then time flies too fast. Luckily the weather is super nice, but sometimes it was super hot and Debby was so sweet to pick me and Finn up! Especially if I had to walk up a mountain with 32 degrees or higher. At least I tried to be home in time before it got too hot.
